Black activists attack 'White Political Ghettos'
The poster also encourages Black people to change the situation by forcing politicians to do more.
Lee Jasper, Chair of OBV stated that: 'The very idea of a multi-cultural, inclusive society is meaningless whilst the heart of British democracy- The House of Commons- remains a white ghetto. Black people are fed up with politicians lamenting about the lack of Black MP's and then doing nothing to put the problem right'.
At the moment there are only ten Black MP's, after June 7th that figure is only likely to rise by one or two.
Simon Woolley, National Co-ordinator for OBV Stated: 'Our strategy for this campaign is to play hard ball with the parties. We have registered to vote more than 100,000 Black people in the top thirty marginal seats, and we are urging the Black electorate to force politicians to address a positive Black agenda.'
Time and place of launch: 11 AM Monday 21st May 2001 at Vauxhall Cross (30 seconds from Vauxhall Station) Address for the poster site : CA 1509/01 (Panel no) South Lambeth Road and junction of Parry Street SW8 1T.
Notes to the editor
OBV has targeted 100 seats where the black vote can decide who wins and who loses. OBV will hold a National question time meeting on Wednesday 23rd May at Westminster Council House at 6.30pm with Rt. Hon Jack Straw MP, David Liddington MP and Simon Hughes MP.
