Scandal as Capital Radio silence Geoff Schumman
This has made him into a household name in the Black community and beyond.
Having recently acquired Choice FM for 15 Million pounds Capital told Schumman told his programmes having some of he stations highest ratings, 'his brand' of broadcasting no longer fitted with Capital plans.
Simon Woolley of Operation Black Vote stated: It is a dreadful move by Capital. I don't think the Black community realises the full implications of what has happened. We lose a broadcaster that cared and dared to speak out about our communities serious issues. Furthermore, it is an explicit warning for anyone else, that, if they want to keep their job then they must keep the community politics and empowerment to themselves'.
It is a particularly depressing week for Black broadcasters, the knowledgeable and community focused Henry Bonsu was also sacked by his bosses at BBC London last week. Although his audiences figures were not the highest within the BBC Bonsu ensured that the local Black arts groups, and other positive initiatives were given unprecedented air time in mainstream airtime.
