Reverend Jesse Jackson launches OBV late voter registration campaign
Operation Black Vote (OBV) is the UK’s leading campaign group to encourage and inspire Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups to play a full and positive role in the democratic process. This Friday, 26th February 2010 at 11.15am the US civil rights icon Reverend Jesse Jackson comes to the UK to launch OBV's later voter registration publicity campaign in Westminster.
Emblazoned on an OBV 100 foot billboard poster the slogan: 'Expect the best from yourself and society. Register to vote' aims to mobilise BME communities up and down the UK to use their voice and their vote in the upcoming elections.
BME communities are in a unique position to make a defining impact on the outcome at the general election.
Simon Woolley, Director of Operation Black Vote said: There are just a few weeks to register to vote for an election on May 6th. In what could be the most important election in a generation if we want the best for ourselves and our society we must register to vote and participate in these forthcoming elections.'
The launch will be attended by Ministers and Shadow Ministers, BME Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and other political candidates, and civil rights activists. The launch will take place at Albert Embankment, Opposite Prince Consort House, 27-29 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7TJ?
