Phone hacking scandal : David Cameron agrees to Public Inquiry
David Cameron at today’s PMQ , when asked by the Oppostion Leader, Ed Miliband has agreed to hold a Public Inquiry into the phone hacking scandal following the recent revelations about Milly Dowler’s phone being hacked which has caused public outrage. Cameron went on to suggest that two inquires could be held, one into the practices of the media and the second into the failings of the original inquiry.
We at Operation Black Vote welcome this decision to hold full inquiries into the media and police practices. Indeed, we are aware that both of these issues need to be looked into following the aftermath of the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the way in which the media treated both Lee Jasper and Trevor Philips.
It is all too often that BME communities are at the sharp end of misinformation and abuse of police power and harassment and any inquiry which has the ability to look into these failures is a welcome measure.
