Black Groups demand Race Committee

The legislation for this new body is at the Standing Committee stage and will be discussed by a committee of MP's next week.

Simon Woolley, Director of Operation Black Vote stated:

Nothing less than a strong statutory race committee with sufficient funds to tackle the rise in racism will be accepted. Without a race focus we are in danger of throwing away the gains that have been made over the last 40 years and have cost many such as Stephen Lawrence their lives'.

Major concerns:

No Race committee No Guarantee for Black commissioners No ring fenced funding Local race equality councils could be abolished The CEHR to be located in Manchester
