Local election campaign warns of threat from far-Right

Teaming up with national black and anti-racist organisation the 1990 Trust, as well as working alongside the Coalition Against Racism the campaign aims to minimise the threat from political extremism and of the far Right vote.

An ad-van poster based on the quote from 18th century parliamentarian Edmund Burke will tour the country aimed at encouraging and inspiring greater turnout in light of the far-Right threat. The message on the poster is as follows: "'All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.' Use your Voice. Use you Vote."

The poster will be in Yorkshire tomorrow, Wednesday 30th April 2003: Bradford, City Hall, Norfolk Gardens 12.30-13.00. Leeds, Civic Hall, 14.30-15.00.

The poster will be in the Northwest on Election day, Thursday 1st May 2003: Oldham, Greengate Street (junction Waterloo street), 12.30-13.00. Burnley, Town Hall, Manchester Road 14.30-15.00.

Simon Woolley, National Co-ordinator of Operation Black Vote said: " Far Right groups in the area are attempting to poison the minds of good people for their own bigoted and racist ends. A low turnout benefits the racist vote. It is only by using the vote that we can collectively demonstrate that these views and thugs that accompany them have no place in a decent society."

Karen Chouhan, of the 1990 Trust said: "The fascists have ditched their jackboots for bespoke suits, but don't be fooled they're still the same thugs that terrorise neighbourhoods and destroy community relations. Many of the people in far Right have criminal records for violence. Racial attacks go up and community relations go down when the far Right gain prominence. We must remember that this Thursday."

Notes to the editor OBV will be targeting the far-Right in the UK on election day.The poster finishes its tour in Yorkshire (Weds), Northwest (Thurs).Images of the ad van are available on 020 8880 6060.
