Birmingham’s Tony Kelly has been recognised with the British Citizens Award for his endeavours in the City. The British Citizens Award (BCA) is a bi-annual programme dedicated to awarding individuals who are engaging in extraordinary work in their local community. Having won the award, he will be invited to the Palace of Westminster, although a date hasn’t been specified. 

On Bernie Grant's birthday, here are five facts about his life

Bernie Grant is one of the most recognisable black figures to have entered politics on these isles. Grant was of Guyanese descent and was elected as Member of Parliament for Tottenham in 1987, before being followed by David Lammy in 2000. His brand of open leadership may have been controversial to some, but ultimately won him many admirers during his time as an MP. To mark the occasion of his birth, here are five facts on Bernie Grant. 

Vigil held in honour of Mohamud Hassan

A vigil was held outside the Cardiff Police Station on Tuesday to mark a month since the death of Mohamud Hassan. It represented the third consecutive day of demonstrations.

Voice.Wales estimate that between 80-100 were in attendance. The group held plaques calling for the footage of his time in custody to be revealed, as the calls for there to be justice for Mohamud continue.

Increasing calls for DUP MP Gregory Campbell to be held accountable after ‘BBC at its BLM worst’ comment

The Democratic Unionist Party MP, Gregory Campbell, is coming under increasing scrutiny after his comments describing an episode of BBC Songs of Praise and an all black lineup as “Black Lives Matters at its worst”.

Campbell, who is the MP for East Londonderry, too to his Facebook, posting “There were five singers, all of them black. There were three judges all of them black and one presenter who was incidentally, yes black."

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala poised for WTO Director-General role

After months of stalemate, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala appears on the brink of taking over as the Director-General of the WTO (World Trade Organisation) as the process nears its end.

Okonjo-Iweala acknowledged the end of the long process through her official social media channels, this weekend. She will become the first African as well as the first female holder of the position, and will replace Roberto Azevêdo

The vaccine is only one part of building wider trust between communities and health services according to Professor Kevin Fenton.

Speaking yesterday at a discussion on the covid-19 vaccine hosted by Westminster Council, the Professor emphasised the need for trust with communities to be built, as the concerns about vaccine hesitancy have continued to grow.
