Godfrey Bloom, a candidate for Humberside’s first Police Commissioner has sparked anger by saying that he would want to abolish the concept of hate crime.

Bloom, who currently serves as an MEP for Yorkshire and north Lincolnshire said,

For a few brief hours toward the end of London’s glamorous Fashion week, Black literally was the new Black.

Fashion designer and milliner to the stars, Phillip Treacy lit up the cat walk with a cast of all Black models - 25 models including Leomie Anderson, Betty Adewole and Jourdan Dunn.

Not only was this a spectacular show with Treacy’s hats which instantly becomes works of art in their own right, but the imagery of exquisite craftsmanship and Nubian beauty has rocked the industry to its core.

Last week, Prime Minister David Cameron appointed Alok Sharma as the Conservative Party Vice Chair, BME Communities.

His appointment is a small step in the right direction, after changes earlier in the month which have resulted in an all white cabinet, not seen in the UK for over a decade.

The Reading West MP, who was elected two years ago will focus on working and engaging with BME groups throughout the UK. Mr Sharma said:

The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) have been outraged by the release of a controversial film entitled, 'Innocence of Muslims' which projects the Prophet Muhammad in a defamatory and insulting way.

Video clips from the badly made and cheaply produced film have been posted on to YouTube and have sparked demonstrations in several countries across the world. The video clips have caused offence to Muslims; by defaming and mocking the Prophet of Islam Muhammad and displaying him and early practitioners of Islam in an insulting manner.

This week Trevor Phillips stepped down as chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The United States is in the midst of a Presidential election campaign. With many issues at stake up in the campaign, this is an opportunity for Americans to have their voice heard by registering their choice of candidate. However, developments in the past two years may have done much to prevent voters, many of them from BME groups, from using their fundamental right to vote, restricting the democratic process.

The outgoing local government minister Andrew Stunell endorsed the latest edition of Black Mental Health UK's (BMH) online journal The Solution. BMH was set up in 2006 to raise awareness and see a reduction in the inequalities of treatment and care of people from African and Caribbean decent. The Solution was relaunched earlier this year with a foreword from Home Office Minister for Crime and Security, James Brokenshire. The journal is essential reading for the mental health sector.

In just a few months time Marvin Rees could make political history. If he wins the Mayoral Election to govern Bristol on 15th November, he will become the first directly elected Mayor of African Caribbean descent in the whole of Europe.

Symbolically this clearly would be monumental. But Rees is much more than just a positive symbol. His grand plan for the city he loves would energize local business, attracting investors, facilitate entrepreneurs, and nurturing creative minds.

Last week, four Christians claimed that they were unfairly discriminated in their workplaces because of their religious beliefs, and have taken their case to the European Courts of Human Rights (ECHR), the highest ruling court in Europe.

The case is particularly interesting as it reveals the tension which arises when religious and secular values conflict.
