Pension freeze for minorities who retire abroad

in

People who retire to countries such as India, Pakistan, Trinidad &Tobago, Grenada, Nigeria and Kenya are not entitled to their full pension payout, unlike those retiring and staying in the UK and Europe.

People from Black and minority ethnic (BME) background who retire to certain countries will have their state pension frozen for the duration of their retirement and this will have a detrimental effect on future of BME finances according to a report by equality think tank Runnymede Trust.

Operation Black Vote (OBV) is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing yesterday, of our esteemed Board Member and friend, Audrey Adams. Audrey passed away yesterday – 3rd February.

Operation Black Vote is sad to announce the untimely passing of Yvonne Witter, our interim Chief Executive.

In the 9 months that Yvonne has worked with us, she has made an important contribution to our work and the wider anti-racist cause in this country.

Please join us in extending our prayers and deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. She will be missed by so many, especially those of us who are committed to freedom, justice and equality for all.

Written by OBV graduate, Pamela Roberts, the discovery of the Edwardian Black Intellectual, is a fortuitous one. Whilst holidaying in New Zealand, a throwaway remark made by a tourist guide, led Roberts to discover the archives of James Arthur Harley languishing in a battered suitcase in a family home in Leicestershire.
