Operation Black Vote in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government launched the Parliamentary Shadowing Scheme on Monday. Politicians from all three major political parties were in attendance to pledge their support for the scheme and their commitment to increasing the low levels of BME representation in parliament and local authorities.

Following the resignation of Dr Liam Fox as Defence Secretary on Friday, Prime Minister David Cameron has had to do a little of his own shuffling in the cabinet.

Defence Secretary Liam Fox has been forced to resign after a week of allegations made his position untenable.

The beleaguered minister has had a stressful week following a number of revelations about his working relationship with friend and so-called advisor Adam Werritty. Though Dr Fox has denied any wrongdoing, he admitted blurring the lines between his personal and professional life and has been investigated by the Cabinet Secretary amid claims he had broken ministerial duties.

In his resignation letter to prime minister David Cameron, Dr Fox wrote,

But now the paper is owned by a Russian migrant, Alexander Lebedev, some of its journalists feel freer to give a more balanced account within the immigration debate which highlights the very real benefits of immigration to our nation.

The likes of Stokely Carmichael, Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale and Angela Davis are inspirational individuals in the fight for justice for the Black community.

The Black Power activists were at the forefront in the the struggle for equality in 1960s America. Although their names may have been forgotten about over the years, they played a prominent role and epitomised that the community should not be forced to play a subordinate role in society, but to challenge oppression and the system.
