Cherry Groce passes away on Easter Sunday

The family of Dorothy ‘Cherry’ Groce, the innocent lady gunned down in 1985, which left her paralysed from the waist down and triggered the Brixton riots leading to a national uprising are now grieving her passing.

Cherry died on Easter Sunday 25th April at Kings College hospital with her children, grandchildren and siblings at her bedside.

EHRC facing a multitude of new challenges

There are dark clouds gathering around theEquality and Human Rights Commission. Internal challenges, including a discontent work force due, in no small measure to uncertainty in regards to  redundancies forced by Government spending cuts.

Overall the Commission could face cuts of up to 60% of its budget. Furthermore, there is a growing chorus of external challenges coming from those who regard equality as an imposition to privilege and the status quo.

These are dangerous times in Lambeth. This weekend saw a dangerous escalation of a vicious gang war that resulted in shots being fired at members of a church congregation who gathered on Easter Sunday to celebrate the christening of a child.

Easter is a most sacred time for all practicing Christians and a period of calm reflection on the biblical tale of crucifixion, death and resurrection of Christ.

400 reports of racial incidents in Kirklees schools

Kirklees Council has revealed that there have been 400 reports of racial incidents in the town's schools over the last three years.

A community organisation leader in Huddersfield has called for greater vigilance against racism in days of economic austerity.

Milton Brown, chief executive officer of the Parents of Black Children Association also called for greater training and professional development for teachers during the downturn.
