Students Arrested for Racist Chants at Nottingham Trent University

Two men were arrested after a video surfaced of racist slurs being shouted in one of the resident halls at Nottingham Trent University.

Rufaro Chisango, who lives in university accommodations, posted the video to her Twitter account after the verbal attack occurred. The video depicts the student locked in her room frightful as she overhears racist chants including “we hate blacks” being shouted behind her door.

Italy’s much anticipated elections took place earlier this week with the results causing mixed reactions across the country. While some celebrated the success of the rising anti-establishment groups, migrants and refugees have expressed deep fear.

However, most surprising was not the victory of the Five Star Movement, which had been widely predicted by polls and national data, but rather it was the controversial election of Italy’s first black Senator.

US teacher revealed to host white nationalist podcast

A social studies teacher in the United States was removed from the classroom after it was discovered that she lived a double life as a white nationalist.

Dayanna Volitich, who teaches at Crystal River Middle School, adopted an online pseudonym which she used to present a nationalistic podcast online. The content of the podcast promoted white supremacist rhetoric as well as racial and religious intolerance.

Instances of far-right motivated hate crimes have increased in the past year, and these groups now pose a dangerous, organized terrorist threat. This trend of ‘xenophobic populism,’ as defined in a recent discussion held by The Open Society Foundation, can be seen across Europe, and even globally. Gucci turban controversy hits the runway

Once again the fashion industry has defended its position as one of the most predominant sources of cultural appropriation. This past week Gucci faced backlash for its Fall 2018 fashion show where white models walked down the runway wearing traditional turbans.

Following the controversial runway show, users took to social media to express their disapproval for the brand’s “cultural ignorance.” Many viewers accused the brand of acting irresponsibly and offensively towards Sikh culture and called for a protest against Gucci products.
