Dear Prime Minister

Our nation is at a crossroads in history. We need decisions and not just discussions.

The Covid-19 pandemic has unleashed an outpouring of public solidarity, whether it is the thousands of mutual aid groups set up around the country, or the countless undocumented acts of kindness and compassion that we all continue to hear about.

In these challenging times, finding excuses to bring people virtually together has been more important than ever, which is why the Naz Legacy Foundation organised a series of virtual iftars (breaking fast), reaching over 75,000 people from across all our communities over the thirty days of Ramadan.

Help us fight for a Covid19 Race Equality Strategy.

With over 125,000 signatories and growing for our petition on Change.org the momentum is with us. We must now frame what that race equality change looks like.

When we started this petition we knew the cause was right and timely, but we never expected more than a few thousand signatories, just enough to say people cared. Never did we imagine the depth and breadth of just how much you care. Thank you to all of you who signed and circulated this petition!

The problem is that white people see racism as conscious hate, when racism is bigger than that. Racism is a complex system of social and political levers and pulleys set up generations ago to continue working on the behalf of whites at other people’s expense, whether whites know/like it or not.

I hope someone, somewhere is capturing the deluge of goodwill that is being offered to organisations such as ours from people who recognise our work in fighting for a more just, a more equal society.
