The 2011 State of the Union Address
The 2011 State of the Union Address
Last night, President Obama gave the annual State of the Union speech-his second since being elected. In the traditional address to a joint session of Congress Obama revealed he will "not walk away" from his health care reforms.
He also reached out to Republicans, asking lawmakers of both parties to "overcome the numbing weight of our politics."
The speech also covered the economies of China and India; the recent violent incidences resulting in the loss of lives in Arizona and Russia, and national security; access to education and public subsidy; and an eschewing of the bar on gays in the military and the 'the don't ask don't tell' policy.
Furthermore, the speech looked at the continuing global financial challenges; and the national terrorism challenges coupled with the need for defending civil liberties.
