50 rare stamps: Jamaica’s 50th anniversary
Art and creative designer Jon Daniels has once again harnessed his obsession with stamps with Black history. And again he has teamed up with one of the world most famous stamp dealers Stanley Gibbons to host an exhibition of 50 fabulous and extremely rare Jamaican stamps.
Some of Jamaica’s greatest figures put on to stamps will be on display including; political icon Marcus Garvey, running sensation Don Quarry, and World heavy weight champion Trevor Berbick.
The display will also be complemented by an original portrait artwork comprised entirely of stamps of Jamaican pop icon, Grace Jones by artist Peter Mason.
Stanely Gibbons’s spokesperson, Louise Reynolds stated
Due to their small scale and everyday functionality the design quality of stamps is easily overlooked. We are delighted to be working with Jon again to highlight some world class design, through selected pieces from Jamaica's philatelic heritage during the 50th year of the country’s independence.
Jon Daniel commented:
I am thrilled to be working with Stanley Gibbons for the second year running to create an engaging exhibition that has strong design principles at its heart. Every stamp tells a wonderful, fascinating story. We become better individuals for celebrating and learning from our glorious history.
This landmark exhibition will take place at Stanley Gibbons flagship store at 399 Strand, London from 1st - 31st October and will also be available to view online at stanleygibbons.com and via a dedicated Facebook page.
