Anton Ferdinand sent bullet in race row

in

Ahead of today’s FA cup fixture between Queen’s Park Rangers and Chelsea (which finished 1-0 to the visitors), Anton Ferdinand was sent a bullet in the post. This is the second death threat he has received along with literally hundreds of race hate messages.

Chelsea’s captain John Terry will face a Crown Court prosecution for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand. Terry denies the charges. Today's clash was the first time the two teams and of course, the two players have met since the incident. There were no handshakes between the two teams before the match.

What is astonishing is that for a very long time, our society has convinced itself that racism no longer exists, neither on an institutional level - unwittingly - or crudely – ‘you Black C...’. The death threats and the deluge of abuse meated out to anyone who dares to speak out clearly shows that perception and reality are in very different places.
