Appeal for witnesses to shooting of Mark Duggan

in

A week after his death at the hands of police, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are urging for witnesses to come forward with any information which could help them with the shooting of Mark Duggan.

The 29-year-old was shot by officers last week in Ferry Lane, Tottenham as they attempted to arrest him. A post-mortem revealed Duggan had died from a single bullet wound to the chest but his family are considering to request a second examination.

His death at the hands of police has been overshadowed by the acts of rioting which began in Tottenham and spread to other parts of London as well as other cities in the country.

The IPCC have set up a community reference group and have been handing out leaflets and speaking to locals about the tragic incident.

IPCC Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said "It is a busy road and there is a busy tube and train station just minutes away.

"I want to appeal directly to anyone who saw or heard anything that may assist us with our investigation - or if you know anyone who has any information and has yet to come forward and speak to us, please urge them to do so.

"The more information that our investigators have the better picture we will be able to build in to the circumstances of Mark Duggan’s death."

An inquest into Duggan's death was opened at North London Coroner's Court in High Barnet on Tuesday where it was established there was no evidence he had opened fire at police. The inquest has been adjourned until 12 December.

Anyone with information should contact the IPCC on 0800 096 9079 or ferrylaneshooting@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk
