There are so many stories about the global economic troubles and how we all face an uncertain future that sometimes we fail to appreciate those who work tirelessly every day and make a contribution to the economy.

But there was a reason to celebrate this week with the annual Asian Trader Awards held in London which highlighted success stories of countless individuals and organisations who have made invaluable contribution to Britain's economy and society.

Even Prime Minister David Cameron spoke about his appreciation of the contribution the Asian community, saying,

"Small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy, and also play a vital role in our communities. I do not underestimate the contribution made by Asian businesses to the UK economy and of course the contribution of the British Asian community to our society.

He added,

"We are a country of traders and entrepreneurs, and quite rightly we celebrate those who exemplify so many traits of good business."

The awards are organised by the Asian Media and Marketing Group and its Editor in Chief Ramniklal Solanki CBE said the awards was a fitting showcase for the fantastic achievements of independent retailers across the UK.

He added,

"We live in difficult economic times in which there is growing global uncertainty over all our economic futures. At such a time, the maxim that small businesses are the engine of the economy is truer than ever."
