AV and UK wide elections: Use your vote TODAY
At some level the whole of the UK will vote today. The referendum on the Alternative vote is wide-spread across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
In addition to the referendum, Scotland has a vote for its Scottish Parliament, Wales for its Welsh Assembly, Northern Ireland for its Assembly and over 250 local authorities will also hold local elections too, including for five directly elected Mayors.
It’s important that our communities vote in every election and referendum. It is not only our civic duty but also our moral responsibility: our democratic tool to decide what is best for us.
I believe it’s so important that it's worth celebrating. So, if you can why don’t you take your family down to the vote with you. It doesn’t matter how old they are. The younger the better. ‘My mum and dad always voted’, your child will remember. ‘They told me it gave them a voice that needed to be heard’.
And just think a million plus Black people who have links to Africa, the Caribbean the Asian Sub-continent and beyond, all doing the same thing - exercising our democrat franchise and voting.
Now, that’s something to celebrate.
