Black Power Mixtape documentary to air at Urban Screen event
There will be a special screening of powerful documentary Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 on Saturday 29th October.
The Genesis Cinema in Mile End will be the venue where Urban Screen will show the award-winning documentary followed by a Question and Answer session with a panel which includes political activist Lee Jasper and filmmaker Ishmahil Blagrove.
Black Power Mixtape shows previously unseen footage of the Black Panther movement which happened in the US during the years of 1967-1975. The Black Panthers were active in the Oakland area of California to fight for rights for the black population.
Filmmaker Goran Hugo Olsson has resurrected that footage in order to revisit this incendiary period that changed the social and political climate in America forever. Figures such as Stokely Carmichael, Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale, Angela Davis, Huey P Newton and Louis Farrakhan appear, and the lasting legacy of their actions and rhetoric is illustrated in commentary from musicians and artists including Erykah Badu, John Forte, Melvin Van Peebles, Talib Kweli and Harry Belafonte. This is an important story especially with recent racial activity in the UK.
The event takes place on Saturday 29th October at Genesis Cinema, Mile End Road, London, E1 4UJ at 6.30pm.
To book tickets visit Genesis Cinema's website or call 020 7780 2000 Tickets cost £8 for Adults, £5.50 Conc.
