Bristol Mayor appoints city’s first Black Cabinet member Cllr Craig
In just a short few weeks as Bristol’s political leader, Mayor Marvin Rees, had made a statement of intent by appointing the city’s first Cabinet member from African and Caribbean decent. Councillor Asher Craig, well known for her community activism will now take the lead on Neighbourhoods with a strategic role in closing inequality gaps.
Speaking on her appointment Mayor Rees said:
I welcome Asher to the team. Asher brings years of professional and community experience to the role and will be a passionate advocate for the people of the city and the Bristol City Council workforce. Since her election in May she has put incredible energy into developing the council’s approach to staff wellbeing and talent development. Like me she believes in creating a more equal and just city in which no one is left behind. The Neighbourhoods role is really important to that at both a strategic and grass-roots level."
Responding Cllr Craig stated:
It is an honour to join Marvin’s Cabinet and take on a bigger role at the council. I have a real belief in his vision for the city and the values he holds dear. I can’t wait to start contributing more to making Bristol equal, inclusive and connected across its communities.
I am not afraid to get my sleeves rolled up and play an active part in the issues, supporting our neighbourhoods and challenging the status quo when things need to change.”
We at OBV wish Cllr Asher Craig well as we do with Mayor Rees too. I’m sure they’ll not only inspire but also get positive things done for the people of Bristol.
