Charting a course for change: Inside the Westminster Civic Leadership Programme launch
Operation Black Vote(OBV) Launched the 2024 Westminster Civic Leadership Programme. It was held on the 12th of February, 2024, at the prestigious Lord Mayor’s Parlour, in the heart of Westminster.
The event drew a diverse array of attendees, including Council members, Executive Directors, leaders, and aspiring change-makers. The programme, designed to cultivate and empower civic leaders across the Westminster borough, was heralded as a significant step towards fostering inclusive governance and community engagement.
Distinguished speakers, including Frances Martin, the Executive Director of Environment and City at the Westminster Council, Serena Simons, the Westminster Director of Communities, David Weaver, the Chair of OBV, Carol Cooper, OBV Director of Programmes, delivered impassioned addresses, emphasizing the importance of collaborative leadership in addressing pressing societal challenges. Furthermore, the speakers as a panel, answered questions asked by the programme participants.
The programme participants were encouraged to embrace their roles as catalysts for positive change, leveraging on the programme, their unique perspectives and expertise to drive meaningful progress within their communities.
The Interactive networking session provided participants with valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, forge connections, and explore avenues for collective action. The atmosphere pulsated with energy as individuals from diverse backgrounds came together, united by a shared commitment to advancing the common good. As the event drew to a close, organisers expressed optimism about the programme's potential to inspire a new generation of civic leaders who would champion inclusivity, equity, and accountability in local governance.
With its launch, the Westminster Civic Leadership Programme embarked on a journey to empower individuals to become architects of change, shaping a brighter future for the borough and the United Kingdom.
