Diane Abbott MP wins best website award
Diane Abbott has beat fellow MPs to win an award for her website.
The MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington was praised for embracing web technologies and using them to engage with her constituents. Her website surpass those of other nominees in the awards like Nick Clegg and Meg Hillier to win the award.
The Usability Award for her website in the MP Web Awards organised by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT was collected at an event at the House of Commons, last week, hosted by the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP.
The BCS MP Web Awards recognise the best sites across a number of categories - sites that successfully engage, excite, provide information and encourage two-way communication between MPs and their constituents; and takes into account ease of use, including navigation, accessibility and use of social media.
The 2010 Awards were judged by Quentin Letts of the Daily Mail, Mark Say, editor of Government Computing, Matthew Windle, a member of Youth Parliament and Rachel Gibson, Professor of Political Science at the University of Manchester.
David Clarke, Chief Executive Officer, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT congratulated Diane stating, “Our MP Web Awards have produced an interesting snapshot of the best use of web technology by MPs today.
"People want to be involved and will use these kinds of tools so MPs who take advantage of web technologies have a real opportunity to create a personal conversation with their constituents."
