‘End Racism This Generation’
In the face of persistent race inequality, the UK’s leading race-equality think-tank, The Runnymede Trust are aiming high and thinking big. Today they launch a nationwide campaign, ‘End Racism This Generation’.
The campaign calls on individuals, businesses and organisations to take specific actions within their own lives, workplaces and communities, to tackle racial inequality that still exists in the UK. It includes an online platform where individuals and organisations can pledge to take actions to help tackle racism and race inequality. Their pledges will be mapped by area, which will allow individuals, organisations and businesses to see what is going on around them. Runnymede will also be hosting events all around England and Wales to connect people together and spread the message.
The campaign is launched with a short film, which looks at people’s experiences of racism and racial inequality and asks how we can work together to end it.
Rob Berkeley, Director of Runnymede said:
In 2013, racism and racial inequality still exist in the UK. Creating an equal and fair society where a person’s life chances are not affected by their race is possible, but only if we work together. The key to succeeding will be informing people about the continued existence of racism and the damage it causes to all of us, and sharing knowledge of what works in combating it."
Addressing racial inequality is sometimes put in a ‘too hard’ box, but in reality people are positive about ending racism and overwhelmingly believe that we can end racism this generation. If we work together we can build a society where everybody has the chance to fulfill their potential and contribute to a harmonious multi-ethnic Britain. Everybody can make a difference regardless of the resources at their disposal. By pledging to do the action that you can on our website, you can inform others and inspire them to follow suit.”
