Faith groups gather in solidarity
In a show of unity and calling for peace, the British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA) and British Sikh Council (BSC) led a multi-faith delegation to the Pakistan High Commission in London last week.
The delegation was a show of solidarity in an effort to overcome multi-faceted problems relating to terrorism and divisions existing between various groups in Pakistan.
In their meeting with High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan, the BPCA representatives and the BSC, along with other faith groups, expressed their condolences and concerns over the assassination of Minister for Minorities, Shahbaz Bhatti and discussed routes for better relations .
Led by the Chief Executive of the BPCA Wilson Chowdhry the 20-member delegation laid wreaths and prayed for peace and prosperity of Pakistan and promotion of tolerance and patience in the society.
In his address Mr. Hasan stated a hope for a country where all the people could practice their religions and co exist in complete harmony
A prayer vigil and worship service was held before meeting with the High Commissioner outside the Embassy. The worship was led by Hamad and Sally Bailey from Voice for Jesus using a mixture of Urdu and English Worship songs.
As well as the (BPCA) and British Sikh Council (BSC) other faith groups included the Christian Peoples Alliance, Christian Social Link, Women Against Fundamentalism, and Potters House Christian Fellowship.
