GG2 Awards: Celebrating Asian Success
I like the idea that two of the most influential/powerful Asians in the UK today are children of working class families: Sons of bus drivers. At number one is Sajid Javid, the UK’s first BME Secretary of State for any Government department. At number 7 on the Asian Powerlist is Sadiq Khan, former Cabinet Member and London Mayoral Candidate.
They and others will join the Asian glitterati tonight for a swanky dinner at the Park Plaza in London.
These awards and celebrations are not only a pat on the back for the individuals, it’s also a reminder of what minorities achieve despite inequalities and lack of privilege. But these events also send out a message to inspire a generation to follow the footpaths of Sadiq, Sajid and many others.
Well done to all those involved.
