Hollyoaks: Duayne Boachie promotes Voter Registration

in

The Hollyoaks star Duayne Boachie who plays Zack Loveday will today be seen in a new TV ad encouraging young people to register to vote before the elections in May.

The TV soap Hollyoaks is widely seen as the programme that best captures the lifestyle for many young men and women around the country. That’s why it’s great that there is this collaboration between the Electoral Commission and Channel 4 and that Hollyoaks characters are promoting a positive message for voter registration and civic engagement.

Parallel to that, Operation Black Vote and the Electoral Commission have worked in partnership for many years, and as part of that partnership OBV interviewed the Hollyoaks star Duayne Boachie.

OBV’s Simon Woolley stated:

Young men such as Duayne are role models for young men and women of all nationalities. Encouraging this audience to have a say about education and jobs within a political context is vitally important."

When asked about why BME individuals are unlikely to register to vote Duayne replies:

They might not think their vote would make a difference, but that doesn’t apply to just BAME young people, I think it applies to young people in general. Perhaps they don’t think there are enough people in politics who they can relate to or want to listen to.”

The ad will go out this evening at 6.45pm on Channel 4 during an episode of Hollyoaks.

Well done to both Channel 4 and Duayne Boachie.

To register to vote start here: It takes less than 5 min.
