Jam TV launches
Sky’s new Caribbean channel
A new channel dedicated to Caribbean news and shows will launch in the UK this Saturday. Devised and developed for the whole community by Caribbean Media House Ltd - JamTV goes to air on Sky channel 192 and Freesat channel 402 from May 3rd.
Every weekend from 5pm until midnight, JamTV will feature a Caribbean news roundup, children’s storytelling, school quiz programmes, talent competitions, cooking, religious and comedy shows, plus travel guides showcasing the beauty of the Caribbean, as well as the spirit of its people.
Ricardo Allen, CEO at Caribbean Media House, said:
Currently, there is no authentic programming direct from the Caribbean available to the UK, and that is a situation JamTV is here to correct. Black culture here in the UK tends to focus on the harder edged urban youth market that can be off putting and overlook the needs of other sections of the community."
Showcasing the work of talented Caribbean filmmakers, and sharing Caribbean-themed discussions with the niche audience are just a couple of the developments on course for JamTV.
Fellow CEO, Lillian Allen added:
We want to build a channel that caters to the whole family, with programmes that everyone here can relate to, same as they do back home in the Caribbean, where you don’t have to spend time worrying what the kids are watching on their computers and tablets, because they’re right there with you watching the family channel.”
The aim is to quickly develop commercial interest in the channel, by providing a unique and distinctive opportunity for local and international companies to advertise products and services to a niche audience frequently overlooked by mainstream television.
The new station aims to appeal to a wide audience and with shows such as Hill an Gully Ride, a documentary series revealing Jamaica’s breathtaking scenery and hidden countryside – Dancing Dynamites – an explosion of choreographed delights and Heather’s Kitchen brings Jamaican spice to UK kitchens.
Tune in from this Saturday to JamTV - Sky channel 192 and Freesat channel 402.
