Janusz Korwin-Mikke MEP: N-word insult outrage
Why are people still using this rancid racist language? This question should be asked put to Janusz Korwin-Mikke, leader of the New- Right Congress Party who has been called to be disciplined after using the N-word during Wednesday’s plenary debate in Strasburg. The outrageous comments came after discussions took place on the existence of the minimum wage law.
He compared job seeking youth to black labours in the American South during the 1960s, saying:
Four million humans lost jobs. Well, it was four million niggers. But now we have 20 millions Europeans who are the Negroes of Europe.”
Yes, they are treated like Negroes!”
MEP’s had howled in outrage, at Korwin-Mikke speech. Many have called the presidency of the European Parliament to take strong action against this far-right MEP. Language like this is unacceptable, and many like the Socialist Coalition have asked Korwin-Mikke to apologise or resign of what many have called the "worst insult of racist discrimination and humiliation".
MEP Cecile Kyenge, a former Italian minister, said that Korwin-Mikke's unacceptable language had “stained the dignity of this parliament.”
She added that:
What Mr Korwin-Mikke has preached did not only offend those that have a different skin colour, but everyone who is inspired by the European values of dignity and equality. We must start fighting very hard to eliminate racism inside this Chamber and throughout Europe,”
Simon Woolley, Director of Operation Black Vote was also stunned by the remarks made on Wednesday. He said:
This is what happens to fascist style politicians who are elected to the EU. His disgusting language is not only insulting but also demonstrates his profound view that Africans are inferior and should be treated as such. The EU has to show leadership and suspend him, along with a demand for him to apologise to 20 million black people in Europe, and many more across the globe.”
Korwin-Mikke has stirred up great controversy during the EU elections in May by claiming that Adolf Hitler “was not aware of the extermination of the Jews.” Should we still let people like him into the European parliament, a body that represents the European people?
Korwin-Mikke needs to take the consequences for his actions, and the EU leadership needs to take a stand to show Europe that they will not allow such disgusting language to be used.
