OBV: our time, our success

in

Greetings to you all!

In a year that has already been so dramatic, in particular the shocking events in Paris and the unimaginable slaughter in Nigeria, these and other events directly impact upon us here in the UK.

It would be easy to be totally negative, and in many ways bury our heads in the sand and hope that things get better. But that’s not our history. It’s not in our DNA to be passive.

Moreover, in a General Election year we have an unprecedented opportunity: to decide who wins and loses; to influence policy; and ultimately to set the agenda at this election.

Our motivation for political engagement must be BME empowerment, justice and the unfinished journey to race equality.  Our message will be that 'everybody benefits from our access to opportunity, and our success in every walk of life'.

To help us realise our full potential and launch our campaign we are honoured to host perhaps one of the greatest orators of his generation; Rev Al Sharpton.

He will help kick off OBV’s 2015 General Election campaign-'OBV: our time, our success' in London at the prestigious University of Westminster, Central London on Saturday 24th Jan at 12 noon:

Former Presidential Candidate and Civil Rights icon, Rev Sharpton has been supporting Black communities in the UK for over 20 years. He first came to prominence here supporting Audrey and Richard Adams in their quest to find justice for the racist murder of their son Roland Adams back in 1991.

In recent months Rev Sharpton has been at the forefront of high profile campaigns and outrage at the killings of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice.

There is no doubt Rev Sharpton will cover these and many other issues including the potential political power that connects Black America - to Black Britain and Black Europe.

Other prominent guests will be on hand including some of Britain’s finest performers and poets.

Free tickets will be very sought-after for what promises to be a unique and special event.

To avoid disappointment - book early. Send full names and individual email addresses to: ashok@obv.org.uk and the full details of venue & itinerary will be sent to you next week.
