Simon Woolley awarded Honorary Doctorate

At an award ceremony at London's Festival Hall, Operation Black Vote Director Simon Woolley was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Westminster for his work combating racism and promoting equality and human rights.

Presenting the award Senior Fellow Sally Feldman said:

Simon started life modestly, but soon saw himself as a disciple of the civil rights icon, Dr Martin Luther King. For his unstinting advocacy of equality, diversity, the empowerment of young people and his determination to combat racism and promote a truly multicultural world, I am delighted to present to you the award of Honorary Doctor.'

Receiving the award Woolley said:

I'm truly humbled by this award. I can only accept this honour by acknowledging and paying tribute to those unsung heroes and heroines at Operation Black Vote, staff at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, and other activists fighting for social and racial justice. It is together we make the greatest difference.'

The ceremony occurred on the 19th Nov 2012.
