Ubele Initiative - it's good to talk

in

Action speak louder than words but it is words and dialogue which can help initiate change and that is the focus of an event to hold an open dialogue in the Black community later this month.

The Ubele initiative is hoping to bring together different generations from the African and Caribbean community to talk about the work that needs to be done between the elders and the youngsters so the community remains strong and viable over the next 30 years.

The organisers say that the idea of creating dialogue for social change emerged back in May, but following the recent riots and early attempts to make sense of what triggered them, as well the desire for post riot remedies, they believe there is a need for a safe space for deep, meaningful and honest conversations.

Ubele - Swahili for 'The Future' - hope the event on September 24 at a location in London which is still to be confirmed will be an intergenerational day of conversation, exploration and creativity leading to the emergence of new ideas.

The Ubele Initiative’s mission is to provide an innovative action-learning programme of leadership development and social change for African and Caribbean communities in England.

The organisers hope to develop and train a new cadre of African and Caribbean, community based leaders aged 18 and over and support them as they test, design and implement solutions to some of their community’s most challenging social and economic concerns.
