Viktor Dubrava: Man on the Run

in

Dynamic Viktor Dubrava, who whilst studying his Masters in International Criminal Law, has also also spent the last few months volunteering at OBV to champion race equality, has decided to take part in ‘Man on the Run’. Organised by Cancer Research UK, it is a 5k run for men and boys in Herne Bay on 6 July 2014.

The fun run is a much needed way to raise funds and awareness of the two most common types of cancer in men -prostate and testicular cancer. According to Cancer Research UK, in 2011 in the UK around 41,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer, that’s more than 110 every day. Prostate cancer accounts for 26% of new cases of cancer in men in the UK overall of which 42% were known to be in black men and 18% were known to be in South Asian men. These alarming statistics suggest that black men are twice as likely to die of prostate cancer than white men.

In their publication, Cancer Research UK states that testicular cancer is the 16th most common cancer in men in the UK. Around 2,200 men in the UK were diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2011, that’s around 6 men every day.

Viktor said:

I am fully aware that times are hard and these charity requests are bombarding your emails ever more frequently, however events like Man on the Run are significant in funding Cancer Research UK which is the world’s leading charity aiming to prevent, diagnose and ultimately treat cancer. As Cancer Research UK is entirely funded by the public, we have to make sure that they will not stop their hard fight against cancer. Nothing happens just because we are aware of cancer; therefore, please help me to make cancer an issue of the past.”
