Georgina Brown: BMA’s new diversity and equality chair

in

A general practitioner from Glasgow has been named as the new chairwoman of the diversity and equality committee for the British Medical Association (BMA).

Dr. Georgina Brown’s election as the head of the committee signals a victory for racial and gender equality.

As chairwoman, Dr. Brown has said that she hopes to raise the importance of her committee within the framework of the BMA, ensure that doctors are empowered, and that working environments are flexible and accepting.

She stated,

“The diversity of doctors reinforces and strengthens the NHS. And it is exactly this personal and professional diversity that colours the type of doctors we become and helps to create, strengthen, stabilise and support the NHS in times of constant change.”

In terms of the work that her committee does, Dr. Brown added,

“Many doctors have never heard of the BMA’s equality and diversity committee and are oblivious to the work that we do behind the scenes to ensure fairness and opportunity for all. It’s time to increase awareness of our role and state our place on the map.”

We at OBV wish Dr. Georgina Brown the best in her role as chairwoman of the diversity and equality committee at the BMA.
