U-vote: Power of the youth vote

in

Young people are so often misrepresented – depicted as ignorant, disinterested in politics and apathetic. But this couldn’t be further from the truth for three young men – Danny, Godfrey and Busayo, the co-ordinators of a dynamic political project called U-vote.

U-vote is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to empower young people by encouraging them to vote.

They believe that since the August riots in 2011, British youths have been branded as the most unpleasant and violent youths in the world. U-Vote not only disagree with this, but believe that if channelled correctly, young people’s voices can contribute to the country in a positive way.

Unfortunately there is one significant problem – not enough young people are registered to make their voices heard.

At present, only 56% of 18-to-25 year olds are on the electoral register compared with 94% of those aged over 65.

U-vote want to get young people to register to vote, promote a legacy of youth empowerment by inspiring them through entertainment.

A U-vote relaunch reception will take place today at the Houses of Parliament.
