Historic Launch: Operation Disability Vote (ODV)
Tomorrow night in Brixton, a group of young activists will seek to make history in a similar way Black groups did nearly twenty years ago.
Ellen Clifford and her activist friends will launch Operation Disability Vote. A project that seeks to inform and inspire disabled people around the UK to use their vote to demand greater equality and opportunity.
Although one in five of the population have some form of disability, many feel and remain excluded, with key socio-economic issues largely ignored.
This project seeks to change all of that. The main organiser Ellen Clifford has said:
We need to get our voices heard. We need politicians to realise that our votes matter, and to deal with the pressing things that matter most to us - like the right to independent living, like truly accessible and affordable housing, like access to work support.”
In solidarity with ODV, Operation Black Vote has agreed not only to speak at their launch tomorrow, but also impart our knowledge so that ODV can be the best they can be. Furthermore, we will seek to collaborate with them over the next six months in the run up to the 2015 General Election.
Good luck Operation Disability Vote.
Launch Time: 6pm -8pm, 26 Nov 2014
Venue: 336 Brixton Road SW9 7AA
