OBV App - the first register to vote app

in

In an age where you can use smartphone technology to do most things from booking a holiday in Bora Bora, to buying a house or car, it's ridiculous that our democratic institutions seem least willing to embrace the new technology. The basis of democracy is to engage, empower people and to hold politicians and democratic institutions like the UK Parliament to account.

If we are to cobalt the growing apathy and alienation that has nearly 7 million people drop off the electoral role and 65% turnout at the 2010 general elections, then ensuring that democracy is accessible, quick and easy to use, has to be a priority.

That's why in a huge step toward the future, OBV is launching its new smartphone application that allows users to use their phones to register people to vote. The OBV app is the first of its kind in the UK and we hope will revolutionise voter registration.

Its takes less than two minutes to register and it's incredibly easy to use. Available on ITunes app store and Google Play simply search for 'OBV' or Operation Black Vote, and download or scan this QR code:

Users will now be able to register themselves, their neighbours, friends and family online.

In addition the app will push news feeds, articles, comments and political analysis straight to your phone. also users will be able to take part in online surveys and polls on key questions, including prioritising on a range of preferred policy solutions designed to tackle racism or voting on other key issues of the day.

Facilitating discussion such as this will provide Britain's BME communities with a powerful additional voice to comment on the key questions and challenges of the day. Real time discussion leading to real time action is the next evolutionary step in galvanising and organising communities on a range of issues.

This offers millions of people the unique opportunity to get involved in the biggest online discussion on a broad range of issues such as the nature of British democracy, and citizenship, the issue of racism & discrimination and the economy. Quite simply the application will allow everyone to join a national debate on these and many more issues.

April 20th is the voter registration deadline that gives us 35 days to ensure that we sign up as many people for voter registration as possible.

You could use the app to form teams of volunteers to tour local estates, or get your Church or Mosque to have everyone download the app and register to vote on the spot. Maybe you can get your local newspaper or radio station to feature you and your teams of volunteers using the app?

The possibilities are endless and we like to hear your stories and see pictures of how you used app in your local area.
