Reach Society Made History

in

The day of April 5th was history in the making for the social enterprise, Reach Society. Reach Society encourages, motivates and inspires black boys and young black men to realise their fullest potential, and on this day, broke through the thousand people barrier by having more than 1,050 participants involved in its fifth Careers Conference, the majority of whom were aged between 14-24.

The recruitment agency, Turner Lovell, one of the 24 exhibitors announced that it hired one young person and invited another six to interview. In addition, Thames Water promoted its full range employment opportunities and the BBC promoted its apprenticeship programme.

The Oxford University African Caribbean Society and friends grabbed the attention of the young audience as they discussed life as undergraduates in Russell Group Universities, empowering and encouraging these ambitious young people and parents. Similarly, four young men, Amos Bursary alumni and undergraduates at high value universities (all Russell Group) inspired their audience in their Perfect 10 Workshop.

The groups surrounded the first time exhibitors such as the RAF, Brunel University London, King's College London, Today's PA, Ascension Trust and the Enfield Caribbean Association. All of these exhibitors reported strong interest in their services and opportunities.
Also, longstanding supporters of the event, such as Lloyds Bank, EDF Energy, Alpha BSE, Rare Recruiting, Excell3, KIO and the London Black Teachers' Network, were as popular as ever.
Guest speaker Sir Geoff Palmer, Emeritus Professor of Herriot-Watt University, spoke about his invention, which transformed the British Brewing Industry and the choice of grain in overseas markets in Nigeria and elsewhere. He educated and inspired the young audience, parents, as well as the professionals and exhibitors.

As you can see, April 5th didn’t only make history, but inspired and empowered the lives of black men and black boys in attendance.
