ON THURSDAY 23 rd JUNE , THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU) REFERENDUM WILL TAKE PLACE. IT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE UK SHOULD REMAIN IN THE EU. THE REFERENDUM WILL PROVIDE A RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE UK , AND IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT POLITICAL DECISIONS IN BRITAIN FOR A GENERATION.

The first in a series of events organised by Operation Black Vote in partnership with JUST West Yorkshire, proved to be a great start for an initiative that is attempting to get ethnic minorities to register to vote in the forthcoming EU Referendum.

JWY certainly welcomed the opportunity to speak directly to a packed audience at the Al Mahdi Mosque to shed more light than heat from an often polarized EU debate.

The EU debate, and race equality will be one of the largest discussions on the subject in Bristol. Operation Black Vote will be holding crucial debate from 6.30pm - 8.30pm at Memorial Hall and Theatre Gladstone Road, Barry to encourage and promote voter registration ahead of next month’s referendum.

These issues that are to be discussed will affect every person in Bristol that’s why we are encouraging a lively debate for the arguments for remaining in the EU and for those against.

In what will be one of the most important debates of our generation, Operation Black Vote has teamed up with the Canon St Memorial Baptist Church to discuss Brexit and what the implications are for race equality.

We want to ensure that our communities have as many facts at our disposable as possible. What do we gain, what do we lose by leaving or remaining in the EU. We’ll also be promoting voter registration, which is a prerequisite to vote. The deadline to register to vote is the 7th June.

The newly elected Mayor Marvin Rees has agreed to give a few opening remarks at the EU, in-out debate, in Bristol next week. Three racial equality organisations are teaming up to put on a European Referendum debate in Bristol on the 26th of May.

Voice4Change England, Operation Black Vote and the Black South West Network are holding this crucial debate from 6:00 -8:30 in the evening at M Shed in Bristol, to encourage and promote voter registration ahead of next month’s referendum.

Perhaps the most important referendum in a generation, (The EU Brexit debate) and Black and minority ethnic communities might be asking, ‘will I have a say!’.

We should of course, not least because there are so many aspects of the EU in-out debate that particularly affects BME communities, including; race equality, jobs, free movement, and how we see ourselves in the UK and the wider world.
