Chris Rock Calls Out Hollywood at Oscars

Comedian Chris Rock hosting the Oscars last night opened with, “I’m here at the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the White People’s Choice Awards,” setting the tone for the rest of his monologue.

In the middle of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, although he was pressured to boycott and quit the event, Chris Rock instead chose to confront the issues head on through his comedy at the awards ceremony.

The Board of Education case in Little Rock, Arkansas a school district in the southern state has come under fire for organizing an assembly for all the black students in the ninth grade.

If an unworldly tourist happened to be at London’s O2 centre last night the nation's premier music awards -The Brit Awards- they would have left the with the distinct impression that British music is 100% white, consisting predominantly of ballads, indie and rock music.

With the exception of international stars Rihanna and Drake, Black artist were not even there at last night's proceedings, with Black Brits most definitely almost nowhere to be seen.

British Muslims Refused Entry to the U.S.

Multiple Muslim British citizens have been denied entry to the United States according to The Guardian, reporting that many people have had their approved visas taken away before boarding flights at the airport with no explanation.

In one instance of family of 11 on their way to Disneyland in California had their visas taken by U.S. embassy officials while in line to board after already going through security.

Make-up giant excludes shades for Darker Skin

Maybelline’s new Dream Velvet foundation line comes in 12 shades in the United States, but only the six lighter shades were released in the UK excluding all those made for any other race other than white, according to Buzzfeed News.

Famous black British model Jourdan Dunn was used in the advertisements for one of the darker shades released in the U.S. and her shade is the only one Maybelline has announced they will release for UK customers so far. Cosmetic options for people of colour are limited because of decisions like this from cosmetic companies.
