Comedian Chris Rock hosting the Oscars last night opened with, “I’m here at the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the White People’s Choice Awards,” setting the tone for the rest of his monologue.

In the middle of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, although he was pressured to boycott and quit the event, Chris Rock instead chose to confront the issues head on through his comedy at the awards ceremony.

62 years after the U.S. Supreme Court declared school segregation unconstitutional during the revolutionary Brown v. The Board of Education case in Little Rock, Arkansas a school district in the southern state has come under fire for organizing an assembly for all the black students in the ninth grade.

If an unworldly tourist happened to be at London’s O2 centre last night the nation's premier music awards -The Brit Awards- they would have left the with the distinct impression that British music is 100% white, consisting predominantly of ballads, indie and rock music.
