Two married scientists of Turkish descent, Özlem Türeci and Ugur Sahin, and an Austrian oncologist Christoph Huber, seem to be at the threshold of saving the world from the deadly Covid-19. More than a million people globally have died and economies around the world have been left reeling from the financial hit because ‘lockdown’ has meant shut down from businesses and jobs.

Nigerians are bracing themselves for renewed attempts by the Federal government to limit online freedom of expression, as the calls to regulate social media have grown in the aftermath of the 'End Sars' protests. This has been met with frustration and resistance online, as many see this as a direct attempt to silence Nigerians and disarm them from freely expressing discontent over an unregulated medium. 

Campaigning efforts by Marcus Rashford have seen the government cede ground once again in the ongoing agenda to support free school meals. The latest climbdown will not be an entirely straightforward extension of free school meals, but it will see a 170m 'ring-fenced' fund distributed to councils, with the BBC reporting that 'at least 80% of that fee will be earmarked for help with food and bills'.

The group have focused on building solid foundations and are now reaping the rewards of their early effort.

Joe Biden has been declared the winner of the 2020 US presidential election by the Associated Press signalling the end of Donald Trump's four year stay in the white house. In doing so, he denies Donald Trump a second term, making him the first President to have suffered this ignominy since George Bush Sr in 1992. The result comes after the democratic nominee triumphed in the key battleground of Pennsylvania, after the prolonged wait for results.

Black History Month may have ended but the momentum behind the recently released 100 Great Black Britons has continued with some measure, with the book quickly becoming a bestseller. The book, written by Patrick Vernon and Angelina Osbourne was published last month, and sought to highlight the achievement, influence and legacy of Black Britons on these isles with focus on individuals from a broad range of disciplines. The book sees activists, poets, authors and athletes all acknowledged under one cover and is the sequel to the initial instalment produced in 2003.

Black History Month is celebrated in October every year In the UK. One of the more encouraging aspects of this year's edition is that there was the notable push to see the teaching of black history incorporated into the wider curriculum. This is in some ways natural. Although often overlooked, Black history is too integrated into wider global history to readily overlook in good faith. Yet, one of the more curious and at times disappointing aspects of black history month is the conspicuous absence of African history from mainstream works.

In excess of one million people have now signed Marcus Rashford's petition calling for the government to take action and extend free school meals.

The number of signatories stands at 1,097,512 at the time of writing, as the petition begins its assault on it's next million signatures. But beyond the numbers, the support for Rashford's campaign has been overwhelming.

This weekend saw several #EndSars rallies not only in the UK but across the globe, as the continued calls for change grow. The rallies have seen diaspora communities take the lead in helping to amplify the existing protests which are currently taking place in Nigeria. The rallies have taken place in Sheffield, Northampton, Bristol, Leicester and Leeds across the 23rd, 24th and 25th October.
