Baroness Scotland on the prospect of a 'Truth and Reconciliation' summit

The head of the Commonwealth association Baroness Scotland has proposed the possibility of a 'truth and reconciliation' summit across the 54 states. The summit which was proposed by the Secretary General would look at the history of the association and its relationship with race. The idea for the summit which was floated during an exclusive interview with the Telegraph comes off the back of Prince Harry's call to acknowledge the Commonwealths 'uncomfortable history'.

Given the current news cycle you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise but the black lives matter protests which peaked during the summer have continued into the month of September. Though national coverage of the demonstrations has severely declined, the call to address racial inequalities which negatively impact black people both in the UK and abroad remains strong.

In the short time in which he had, Chadwick Boseman's impact on cinema was profound. While many are most well known for the number of roles in which they take, Boseman's career reads of a man in keeping with his roots, aware of cinemas ability to both captivate and inspire. Through his performances as James Brown in Get On Up, Jackie Robinson in 42 and of course the superhero T'Challa in Black Panther he wore the capes of those, including even the fictional, that were of significance in black households within the US and his native South Carolina.

Ade Rawcliffe has spent much of her life in UK media –Channel 4 and now ITV- doing one of mainly three things: Promoting outside Black and Asian artistic talent; challenging the institutions she works for and the wider media industry to be more inclusive and representative, particularly at a senior level; and breaking new grounds as a truly talented Black role model.

It is no surprise to me, therefore, to see my friend be appointed to ITV's Executive board as a Director for Diversity. The first FTSE 100 Company to have such a role at the most senior level.
