in

President Barack Obama today launched his campaign for re-election. A new campaign video was released and in an email to supporters he sought to lay the foundation for a lengthy campaign for the 2012 election saying:

“We're doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you -- with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.

TUC must step up fight against racism

in

With increasing numbers of black trade union members turning up at my door requiring support for workplace race discrimination cases I have to ask the question what is the TUC and some Unions doing to ensure effective representation for their black members?

Other than a few policy statements and supporting the fight against the likes of the extreme right wing groups such BNP and the EDL the TUC has no clear leadership or strategy for tackling racism in the workplace that blights the lives of thousands of black workers.

Frank Bruno should report stop incident

in

I imagine Frank Bruno thought it would have just added insult to injury for him to trundle down to his local police station to report that he had just been humiliated by members of its own team.

Instead he mentioned the matter in a radio interview this week.

The former heavyweight champion told BBC Radio 5 Live how local police stopped him and accused him of stealing his own car.

Bruno said that he was driving his 45,000 (GBP) Mercedes ML sports car, with personalised number plates, when he was stopped by officers in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

ACLT saved from closure

The ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) has been saved from closure thanks to generous community giving after their appeal for help in January.

Co-founders Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis launch a campaign to save the organisation which was ‘not in great shape’ at the beginning of the year.

ACLT needed to raise a minimum of £80,000 by the end of March to avoid closure. And yesterday the organisation announced that it had not only reached its target but exceed it.

A report by the Turban Campaign this week says Sikh groups are looking to expel EDL member Guramit Singh from the Sikh community.

The ultimatum calls for Guramit Singh from Nottingham to publically denounce and distance himself from the EDL by the end of the Vaisakhi festival.
