Zameer Choudrey
Zameer Choudrey was raised to the peerage as Baron Choudrey of Hampstead in the London Borough of Barnet in 2019.
Born in 1958 in Islamabad, Pakistan, Zameer moved to the UK at the age of 12 with his family to join his father, a Second World War veteran who had served in the British Army. Zameer is Chief Executive Officer of the Bestway Group and he has been responsible for transforming Bestway from a predominantly UK wholesale business into an organisation with diverse global interests that generate turnover of £3.5 billion and employs 34,000 people globally (12,000 of which are in the UK). Zameer is a trustee of Bestway Foundation UK and Chairman of Bestway Foundation Pakistan.
He is also a Trustee of Crimestoppers and GroceryAid; a member of HRH Prince of Wales Pakistan Recovery Fund International Leadership Team; a member of the UK Advisory Council of British Asian Trust and a Governor of the Rainbow Foundation. Zameer is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. He is an Honorary Doctor of Civil Law from University of Kent. Zameer was appointed CBE in the 2016 New Years Honours list for services to the wholesale industry and charity.
