Kamlesh Kumar Patel
Lord Patel was raised to the peerage as Baron Patel of Bradford, of Bradford in the County of West Yorkshire in 2006.
Lord Patel was educated at Belle Vue Boys Grammar School and Huddersfield Polytechnic where he attained a specialist qualification in Social Work. He married Yasmin Saloojee in 1998 and has two sons and two stepdaughters.
Lord Patel is a crossbench peer. He previously worked as a Social Worker for Bradford Social Services and is currently Head of Centre for Ethnicity and Health and of the Institute for Philosophy, Diversity and Mental Health. He was honoured with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1999.
He is national director for the Department of Health's National Black and Minority Ethnic Mental Health Programme and is a patron for the National Men’s Health Forum.
