Kumar Bhattacharyya
Lord Bhattacharyya was raised to the peerage as Baron Bhattacharyya, of Moseley in the County of West Midlands in 2004. He is affiliated with the Labour Party.
Lord Bhattacharyya was educated at IIT in Kharagpur and Birmingham University where he attained a MSc in Engineering Production and Management and a PhD in Engineering Production.
He is a professor of manufacturing and director for Warwick Manufacturing Group at Warwick University. He is also a scientific adviser to the South African government.
In 2014, he was elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and several other professional bodies, including the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Indian National Academy of Engineering and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
Lord Bhattacharyya was honoured with a CBE (Commanders of the British Empire) in 1997 and KBE (Commander of the Order) of the British Empire in 2003. He was awarded the IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers) Mensforth Gold Medal in 1998 and made president of India Padma Bhusan in 2002.
Throughout his career, he has been a passionate advocate for engineering innovation and the revival of British industry.
He married Brigid Carmel Rabbitt in 1981 and they have three daughters.
