Michael Chew Koon Chan
Baron Chan (1940-2006) studied at Raffles Institution in Singapore and Guy's Hospital Medical School. Before becoming a life peer in 2001, he was a paediatrician, Director of the NHS Ethnic Health Unit, and Commissioner for the Commission for Racial Equality.
Baron Chan was a member of the British Medical Association, and was a Consultant and Senior lecturer at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He was also co-editor of the publication Diseases of Children in the Tropics and Sub-Tropics.
Baron Chan was married to Irene Wei-Len Chee and had two children.
