He has previously been an elected member on two councils - Epping Forest District and Essex County; becoming a District Councillor in June 2006 and elected onto Essex County Council in 2017, holding cabinet positions including Lead Member for Finance, Housing and Property. He also stood unsuccessfully in North Tyneside in the 2010 election.
He has been Chair of two local Conservative groups and is a member of Conservative Friends of India.
