Janet Daby MP (Labour)


Janet Daby has been the Labour MP for Lewisham East since a by-election in June 2018. In the December 2019 General Election, she held her seat with 26,661 votes, equal to 59.5% of the total vote share.

Daby’s parents were Windrush migrants from Guyana and Jamaica.

Daby is a former Lewisham borough councilor, first elected in 2010, and served as deputy mayor of the London Borough of Lewisham prior to her election as an MP. She also previously worked in volunteer management and in children's social care, and acted as a registered fostering manager.

She was the Founding Director of the Whitefoot and Downham Community Food Plus Project, an organisation which combats food poverty and isolation, helps over 50 local people each week, and which received a national award in recognition for its work.

Daby has two children.
