Rt Hon Priti Patel MP (Conservative)
Priti Patel has served as Conservative MP for Witham since 2010. Recently in the December 2019 General Election, Priti received 32,876 votes, which equaled a 66.6% majority, retaining her seat.
She currently serves as the Secretary of State for International Development.
Priti was born in London and went to a secondary school in Watford before going to the University of Essex. Priti now lives in the heart of Witham with her husband and son. Priti says that her upbringing and family life played a large part in shaping her politics.
Priti has worked in the communications industry for over ten years and until recently was the Director of Corporate Communications at a major international company.
She has worked around the world and has direct experience of dealing with a diverse range of issues including; bringing education to communities in Africa and India, to foreign direct investment around the world and agricultural issues in the UK.
As a former School Governor, Priti cares passionately about education, she is a supporter of a number of charitable organisations across the constituency and as a young mother she understands the wide range of issues affecting people in the local area.
Priti fundamentally believes in the principles of accountability, transparency, fair play and in putting Britain first when it comes to issues such as Europe and immigration. Priti is a straight talker and whether one agrees with her views or not she is prepared to defend the interests of local people across all the new Witham Constituency.
She also has a strong held and unwavering belief in never abolishing the pound, she is a forthright supporter of transparent Policing who wants to see the streets reclaimed for the law abiding majority and genuine life sentences for the most serious of crimes. Priti is determined to be a strong voice for Witham.
Priti has previously served as Exchequer Secretary and as a Minister of State for the Department for Work and Pensions.
